Nice people, wonderful services and the Saturday Kiddush is amazing !
The Anshai Lebowitz congregation began more than 110 years ago when immigrants from the town of Lubowich Russia attempted to create a synagogue. Originally the services were held in local home and eventually it was moved to a dedicated site. The congregation has been at this location since 1967. The congregation is Orthodox...and yet, a bit of liberal thinking has been introduced. For example, there are three seating options - men only, women only or mixed. All of that aside, what is most unusual is the service and the people. The services are held in a very small area; a microphone is not required. When the rabbi speaks, it seems more like a conversation than a service - literally, no matter where you are seated, he is within feet of you. It is at first uncomfortable (if you begin to doze off, you won’t be hidden by dozens of people sitting in front of you) but eventually you become more impressed and it seems more meaningful. I am not Orthodox and yet no one made me feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. There is sufficient parking (but I would not drive there on the Sabbath). The building is handicap accessible.
